WI: Gates never is sent south?

Hi, I am new here and was wondering what would have happened if Nathanael Greene had been sent to command the Southern Continental Army instead of Gates? I happen to know that Washington wanted to send Greene to the Carolinas after the siege of Charleston, but Congress sent Gates and he then got his butt kicked at Camden. What do you think would have happened?

Well Greene was a much better general than Gates so the Battle of Camden would have gone a lot more smoothly for the Americans. Even if they were defeated they wouldn't have fallen apart like they did under Gates as Greene was a master of strategic retreats. Cornwallis would have been forced to retreat to the coast sooner although that move may have been more successful than OTL depending on whether the French Fleet could arrive in time.
