WI:Galicia-Hungary

What if Galicia-Volhynia merges with Hungary via a dynastic marriage or because the King of Hungary buys Galicia-Volhynia from the King of Poland, since Galicia-Volhynia calls itself the successor of Kievian Rus, what would happen to Hungary, would they fight against Muscovy because they also call themselves successors of Kievian Rus?

Galicia-Volhynia wouldn't exactly call itself Kievan Rus since the rest of the Ruthenian lands are a part of Kievan Rus. The most sensible thing would be a union between Hungary and Lithuania.

I can't see the Kingdom of Hungary wanting Galicia. Galicia-Lodomeria always formed a weird part of the dual monarchy because it was seperated from the rest of it by the Carpathians. It looks good on a map, but geographically it doesn't make too much sense unfortunately.

In what age? In XIVth century Galicia (or Red Ruthenia) belonged to Hungary for a short time. Later it was retaken by Poland. Theoretically it was possible for Hungary to keep Galicia, although that might have caused a conflict with Poland (but not necessarily).

The POD is in the XIV century.

Then it is possible. Casimir III of Poland has a legal son (born, say, in 1352) and Hungary buys Galicia from Poland for 100 000 florens (as it was arranged in 1350) and support against Bohemia when/if Poland goes after Silesia.
Hungary does not need to fight against Muscovye, since there is big Lithuania between them.

But if Hungary buys Galicia, Hungary will have more Vlachs/Romanians especially if they vassalize Moldova as well.

So what? Hungary already was a real mosaic of nationalities. Hungarians, Croatians, Serbs, Slovaks, Ruthenians, Germans... Nationality did not matter so much at the time. The religion, OTOH... IIRC Vallachians and Modlovans were Orthodox, just like Ruthenians. But I think Hungary already had its share of the Orthodox (Serbs, e.g.) so with reasonable (tolerant) policy it might work.

Another question would be: what if Daniel refused to pledge his allegiance to Batu Khan, resulting in the Golden Horde's conquest of Galicia-Volhynia? Paradoxically enough, it may result in the reunification of Rus' by the Golden Horde, although they may prefer to divide the Rus' princes in order to keep it down.

But wasn't Hungary unstable at the time Galicia-Volhynia was at their peak before Charles Robert of Hungary became the King of Hungary, is it possible for Galicia-Volhynia to annex Hungary at this point.

If Pavao Šubić and Ugrin Csak will it, it can happen. Basicaly the situation at the begining of 14th century was such that these two men were the king makers and who they select as their protege will become the king. I always though it odd that these two guys didn't shake hands and declared themselves kings of Croatia and Hungary respectfully.
