WI: French Vic at the Battle of the Nile = Napoleon's Empire of Asia

As the title says, if for any number of reasons, the French win at the Nile (along with Nelson dying during the battle, he got a head wound during it), how will this change the fate of the Egyptian Campaign. Will a better supplied Napoleon be able to set out on his conquest of the East or will good communications with France make him want to leave sooner and give up on the fanciful dream of marching on India (realizing sooner how badly the Directory are screwing up). Is conquering and pacifiying a large slice of the Medeast even possible for an early 19th century force to do?

Even if he had won the battle of the nile time was not on his side his defeat would have been put off. In my TL "The Federal Republic of America" I have him win that battle but loose not long afterwards.

Everytime someone brings up a Napoleonic French Naval victory I say that same thing. The French Navy was totally outclassed by the British in everything but weaponry. The British were better trained and better led. Even if Nelson died there were many men who could take his place - Cuthbert Collingwood, William Sidney Smith, Thomas Cochrane, etc. Even if the French got lucky and managed to win at the Nile it wouldn't make much of a differance in the long run.

Actually, I believe that the French warships were better built and designed than the British, which is reflected in how many were incorporated in the Royal Navy.

Exactly what and where would Napoleon go beyond Cairo, let alone Egypt, if he won? He would be cut off from additional reinforcements and supplies from France. The defeat at Aboukir Bay probably was a blessing in disguise for Napoleon.

Napoleon's Empire of Asia??????????????

?Would it be Napoleon's?
Napoleon staying in Egypt longer [effect of more victory's] would butterfly a lot of political maneuvering [France/Paris] in the 1795~1800 time frame.

Which is exactly why I said the only thing the French weren't outclassed in was weaponry.

*bump*

Btw, Napoleon was planning on recruiting (on buying, as needed) Egyptians and Nubians to swell the ranks of the Army of the Orient. If this program had paid off, would this be enough to swing things in the East to his favor?
