WI French Restore Rule in Haiti

What are the long term consequences for Haiti, the Caribbean, and France if during the Bourbon Restoration the French attempt to reassert control over the colony of Saint Dominique?

"Attempt to", or actually succeed? If they attempt to, they probably fail for the same reason they failed before, and little changes. Otherwise, I wouldn't expect huge butterflies from OTL but maybe we see some interesting side-stories in about the 1830s onwards where the USA tries to finger-wag at the French over Monroe Doctrine, too, and perhaps later on the French allow themselves to drift into some Spanish-American War analogue, possibly bloody-nosing the Americans and throwing their foreign policy into a bit of confusion. Can't say I know well enough to say more detail than that though.

I was thinking they would have the ability to take the island initially but there would be a bloody war against them, not sure if the French would get tired and leave or stay the course.

My main question is what is most likely to happen long term if the French stay. A department, a former colony separated on good terms in the 1960s, a communist revolutionary state that kicked the French out? Also what would the standard of living be like and what impact would Haiti have on the political status of Guadeloupe and Martinique?

Ja, given the amount of tropical diseases (e.g. malaria and yellow fever), trying to hold the place with European troops is going to be a nightmare. You'd get 10 soldiers invalided/dead from disease for every one killed - and a local permanent insurrection would likely kill thousands.

Don't see it working.

I think if they succeed in your scenario. Then Jackson would definitly get involved. He almost started a war over impressment reparations from the war of 1812, in around the same time period.

Just the excuse he needs to try and pinch off some Caribbean empire for himself, too. Not that it'd be a good idea, mind you...

Well, there is the issue of the USN being a joke, Jackson fighting France could only end badly for America.
