France tried a couple times in the 16th century to start colonies on North America's East Coast but they ultimately failed. However, she later successfully established her hold over the Mississippi basin and Canada.

So, for the intents and purposes of this WI, say France's American colonies (land for which was claimed from Newfoundland to Florida as early as 1524) in the 16th century manage to survive the vicissitudes of life (until at least the 18th century) while the English end up colonizing the OTL Louisiana territory plus Florida (which would probably be named Virginia or New England) from when Raleigh started OTL.

How would this change anything? Would it change anything? Would the French still get/want a foothold in Canada? Would the English colonies' placement mean that England might start swiping islands in the Caribbean earlier?
