WI: Frederick The Great married Maria Theresa

I recently found out that one of the people Frederick The Greats father was thinking of have marry his son was Maria Theresa, this got me thinking how would this effect history in the short and long run.
For this we should probably just ignore the Catholic/Protestant issue.

I suppose there might be a union of the Austrian and Prussian thrones if they have a son... though... that's a bit of a leap...

This has a great potential of upsetting the delicate European balance of power - France is gonna be severely pissed off, for one.

Not just France; the Russians, Poles, Saxons and various other Germans, hell even the British and Spanish aren't exactly going to be happy.

I thought Prussia wasn't a powerful nation yet- powerful meaning on the same level as the other big European nations. It wouldn't be like a union of, say, France and Spain.

A bit more like a union of France and an up and coming european power but it would be major.

Good point. So do you think it would spark a war?

I personally have some reservations about that- all of Germany is technically ( and I mean very technically here) part of the Holy Roman Emperor's domain.

Correct. But given Frederick's military talent and good luck, he can make the Austro-Prussian union a force that opponents won't be amused with.
