WI: Freddie Mercury lives

What if Freddie Mercury didnt contract AIDS and die? How would it affect their popularity, and for that matter, their musical style ("The Miracle" showed them getting back to more of a hard rock sound)? I do know that a lot of the more reflective songs written when freddie knew he was dying probably wouldnt be written (show must go on, was it all worth it, made in Heaven, etc).

But according to wikipedia, "Made in Heaven" was written in 1985, way before Freddy Mercury knew he was dying. I think Freddy would still be one of the greatest artists of today.

I would like to think he'd still stay cool. A combined Lady GaGa/Freddie Mercury concert would be something to see.

Like most aging rockers, however, he'd probably get grumpy and complain about all the newfangled music :D

I suspect that with the changing attitudes towards homosexuality in the UK in the late 90s he'd probably openly come out and become extremely active in the LGBT community.

Queen were already one of the biggest acts in the World before Freddie's death so that would be unchanged, they'd be like the Rolling Stones, still touring to packed stadia but probably increasingly living off past glories. And I would have got a chance to see them live :(

He was, and they were!

I was at their last ever gig, at Knebworth, beautiful grounds of a stately home.
At the time, it was due to be the video release, but some poor bloke got stabbed to death and it remains unsolved, so all film is probably still held by Herts Constabulary to this day, which is a real shame.

(Well, it's even more of a shame that somebody died, of course, but y'know what I mean).
