WI: Franklin Roosevelt does not run for a third term?

Whoever might replace Roosevelt could end foreign aid through Lend Lease to Europe and probably also the oil embargo on the Japanese, being isolationist. This prevents the attack on Pearl Harbor and for Russia and Britain to suffer through the war in Europe.

Britain starves into an armistice without Lend Lease support by 1942. The Russians take until at least 1946 just to stop the German invasion, but are never able to bring down the Nazis themselves without it. This war will end in a stalemate too with an arms race to follow. Germany controls most of continental Europe without Lend Lease.
That's assuming that an isolationist or appeaser gets the nomination. Someone like Cordell Hull would probably just continue Roosevelt's policies.

And someone like Hull is far more likely to win the nomination and the election than an isolationist. Even if he doesn't run for a third term FDR will be a kingmaker unless he doesn't run because he is dead.

He wasn't dead in OTL 1940. The basic premise here is that Roosevelt chooses to uphold the tradition, not because he can't run any more.

Difficult to swallow that, considering that post-1948 FDR wanted to become the head of the United Nations. Retirement and personal mortality was not a concept that Roosevelt chose to grasp.
