During the Second Northern War, Johann de Witt feared that his involvement against Sweden might provoke the English and French, who were then allied with each other and with the Swedes. The English, too, feared that the Orangist Party in the Netherlands might convince the Dutch to join the Anglo-Spanish War on the side of the Spaniards. De Witt, attempting to avoid conflict, was able to reach an agreement with the Anglo-French at the Concert of the Hague in 1659. But what if the negotiations fell through and France and England ended up at war with the Netherlands?
With the convergence of two major wars, Europe could become embroiled in a continent-wide conflict. The two sides would probably be England, France, Portugal (the Restoration War was still ongoing), and Sweden against Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, and Poland. Brandenburg-Prussia would be a major wild card, as they switched sides multiple times in OTL. With the end of the 30 Years' War only about a decade in the past, could the conflict also reignite passions in Germany and envelop the Empire in war?
