Like the title says what if Francis of France had won the election for Holy Roman Emperor in 1519? From what I read it appears that he made an attempt towards winning the position but failed to bribe enough electors. First off is there any way to make this happen? Could Francis have believably pulled this off? Second off if he had won the election what would the ramifications be? Could the French have held the title, and what would their foreign policy goals be?
