WI: Forrest Felled

On June 14, 1863, Nathan Bedford Forrest, notorious Confederate general, got into a fight with Lt. A. Wills Gould, an artillery officer under his command. Forrest was shot in the hip, while Gould was fatally stabbed.

What if Gould had killed Forrest?

Shorter war most likely, maybe a matter of a few weeks or even a couple months or so.

If a Forrest is felled among the trees, does the Civil War really hear it?:D

I don't think it would have a great effect in curtailing the War to any appreciable degree, although it would be a demoralizer for the South.

The west would lose one of the few competent commanders it has. Cleburne pretty much would have to carry the standard.
