WI: First Moroccan Crisis Escalated into a War?

The First Moroccan Crisis took place in 1905 when Kaiser William II attempted to create a breach in the recent Entente Cordiale between France and England. By opposing French colonialism in Morocco, the Kaiser believed he could create a breach between the French Republic and England, whom he did not believe would support the French claims. Things did not work out according to the Kaiser's plans, as every nation outside of Austria-Hungary supported the French, and he was forced to back down in an international conference.

My question is how this diplomatic crisis could have led to a general European War, and how such a conflict might have developed, especially with a Pre-Dreadnought RN, and no Anglo-Russian Alliance to threaten the German Empire to the East?

I guess if you take the POD back a few years to the Fashoda Incident between France and Britain. Make it far more tense, without starting a war, that causes a major cooling of Anglo-French relations.

Come the Moroccon Crisis, Britain is not willing to back up France as Kaiser Bill suspects, and in fact supports the Kaiser's ideas of opposing colonialism in Morocco (in reality the Kaiser wants Morocco for himself). Neither France nor Germany back down, and finally tensions erupt when the Germans send warships to Agadir earlier than OTL (OTL it was 1911, let's say it's 1908 here). So the French declare war, and the alliances explode. Britain stays neutral, so that's one less major naval power.

I have already read a thread like this and the general consensus was that this war would be short and would be a German defeat.

Sorry to beat a dead horse. I am as critical as the next guy when it comes to rehashing discussions that took place a mere few weeks ago. The discussion on that thread was pretty thorough, the only thing I would have liked to see more of would be discussion on possible naval combat between the French and German pre-Dreadnought navies (I cannot imagine the German fleet fighting set pieces battles with the RN)

In my defense, I did do a search before starting the thread, but I searched "posts" rather than threads.

Then start a thread on that specific topic and not one on the war in general.

It should be a lot of fun and very interesting. :)
