WI: Fidel turns Cuba into Nationalist State?

Given his recent death, I thought it'd be interesting to ask what might've happened if Fidel Castro chose to rebuff both the communists as well as us-backed interests and chose to convert Cuba into a Latin-nationalist state upon seizing power?

What sort of economic programme do you think we might see and how do you think Moscow and the US would react to it?

That really makes no sense. Fidel Castro was never a Fascist, and there were no Fascists in his inner circle. Fascism also doesn't give Cuba anything, whereas going Communist opened Cuba's markets up to the Soviets and gave them some of that sweet, sweet Soviet aid.

Sorry- meant nationalist. don't know why I put Fascist.

The issue is that same, By committing revolution against Batista you oppose the US, and the only way to survive in opposition to the US is with the aid of the Soviets
The Democratic dominates congress opposed Eisenhower's support for Batista, the US would tolerate a non-socialist Cuba.

I wonder if we could get a clarification on what the OP means by a "nationalist state". Maybe the best thing would be to give an example of an OTL one.

TBH I had a Francoist-Spain state in mind when I thought about this question. (Pro Catholic, anti-left, anti-liberal, heavy authoritarian)

Castro's regime was nationalistic, in many ways his export of communism was done for nationalistic goals, not internationalist goals. There were often political clashes with the Soviets over the way that Castro would start brush fires where ever possible as a means to keep the USA focused away from his own coast.
