WI Fedorov Avtomat adopted before a Great War broke out?

The Fedorov Avtomat was an early, intermediate-caliber automatic rifle, in development from 1906. If it were adopted either in 1913 or (in a delayed Great War (or no Great War) TL) by 1915 or 1916, what would be the consequences...
  • for Russian military doctrine?
  • for Mauser and other arms manufacturers?
  • for the Austrian and German armies?
  • for the French army?
  • for Mexico, which produced the automatic Mondragón rifle?

Strengths and weaknesses

IMVHO, it would be a disaster if issued generally to the troops. It was finicky and didn't deal with dirt all that well--not a good thing for a weapon that will be plased in the hands of peasant soldier who are often not mechanicly adept.

In the hands of elite troops, who prepare for a mission, go out and do it, and return--or in the hands of a few well trained soldiers as a portable machine gun for assaults, I suspect it would do well. Inexperienced troops would likely have no fire disipline, straining Russian logistics badly, also.

Well trained machine gunners would do well with it, I think.

If it was used, then there would be more work at overcoming its shortcomings. There would also be a rush to duplicate and improve on it among all the combatants.

A reliable assault rifle would make storming a trench line even more futile.
