WI: FDR died on January 1, 1947 as President?

What if FDR died as president later than in OTL, on January 1, 1947? Would he still nuke Japan to end the war? Would post-war peace and the Cold War as we know be different? Would Truman in TTL possibly win reelection in 1948?

Yes, a little, and yes.
I believe he planned to resign in 1946, when he thought the war would be over, to lead the United Nations.

Much love to FDR, but I don't see the guy mandating the use of the weaopn(s) on two human inhabited cities.

That's why he didn't commission the Manhattan Project, isn't it? Oh, wait. No President wouldn't have used the atomic bomb to end the war.

I think the biggest change would be the Viet Minh are supported by FDR straight away. Hirohito might be hanged, too.

FDR would have used nukes with much less hesitation than Truman. During the Battle of the Bulge, he asked General Groves if there was any chance that a bomb could be readied to in time to stop the German offensive.

Truman gets the "blame" for dropping the bombs, but the actual decision to use them was made by FDR. Truman just signed off on what FDR had already decided, and approved the target choices.
