WI:Extinction of the Aragonese Trastamaras

What if Ferdinand II of Aragon dies before he marries Isabella and Isabella marries Nicholas of Anjou instead of Ferdinand of Aragon and the alternative succession to the Aragonese throne to Nicholas would be Francis of Navarre who is married to Joanna of Castille while Mary of Burgundy still marries to the Habsburgs like in OTL, what would happen to France and Spain in this scenario? would Isabella win against Joanna?

Would this result in the French confiscation of Provence and Anjou before Nicholas inherits it?

Most likely, the French king wanted to get his hands on Anjou et al - hence why Nicolas' heir was only Comte de Provence - and he might have an objection to a foreign king holding as much territory in France. Although the French king can't do jack about the duchy of Lorraine that Nicolas has also inherited.

This seems like it could lead to a full succession crisis--Francis seems too young, and Navarre too weak, for him to press his claim on Aragon without support. But if Louis XII can't get Nicholas to surrender his French titles peacefully, he could at least deprive him of a royal title by pushing the claim of Francis, and such a war might leave Louis with the opportunity to absorb those lands anyway. Since there were a lot of backroom negotiations over marriage and the Castilian succession already, this could be quite a mess.

Another match mentioned was of Isabel/Juana of Castile to marry the French king's brother. So, if, to balance the scales out - Fernand dies and Berry lives - that might make your war of the Castillian Succession far more interesting.

But compared to Berry, Nicholas has a claim to Aragon and a possible powerbase in Spain..

-Rene of Vaudemont has claims to Lorraine
-King of France has claims to the Nicholas's territory in France

This might end like an earlier Spanish war of Succession.
