Today we appreciate that wetlands are not only host to many forms of wildlife, but they also help regulate flooding by absorbing excessive water. Through various human interventions, we've drained most of what was the Everglades and covered it with orange groves, golf courses, and resorts. But then in the 70s, we realized what a bad idea this was and put an end to it with the creation of Everglades National Park. So what if we had gone all the way and drained all of them?
I'm guessing the first effect would be to divert most of the development that occured along the I-4 corridor IOTL down to the area between Miami and Naples. What else would be different?
