WI: Eston Kohver abduction goes wrong, results in dead Estonians and Russians

In light of the news that kidnapped Estonian security officer Eston Kohver was finally released in a prisoner exchange between Russia and Estonia, I thought I'd pose this question.

Suppose in 2014, when the Russians moved in to capture Kohver, that there would have happened to have been an Estonian military or border guard unit nearby. Suppose then that said unit would have moved in and intervened at the critical moment, resulting in both dead Estonians and dead Russians (Kohver himself may be dead or wounded in this scenario).

What would be the effect of an international incident like this?

Accusations, recriminations, condemnations, probably intensification of sanctions, and harder feelings between Estonia, the rest of NATO, and Russia.

What it likely doesn't end up as is war. The Russians don't want to actually fight NATO unless they feel like they have to because they know they'll lose conventionally and NATO doesn't want to fight Russia because they know (or at least, believe) what Russian nuclear policy is if NATO attacks them and starts to win.
