There was a proposal to build a canal from OTL DC to the Ohio Valley instead. So WI it's attempted, & fails, & the Erie Canal never happens?
I've heard it said Erie Canal made NYC the #1 city for trade, & without it, New Orleans would be #1. (I've even heard the Statue of Liberty would be in N.O. otherwise.)
Does this affect migration into the U.S.? (Same source said it meant more population in Ohio & Michigan, with impact on the ACW.) Does it impact industrialization? (Ditto.)
