What if when Empress Matilda was widowed instead of returning she decided to marry the King of Denmark instead, what would happen to Normandy and how would the King of France react?
Yeah...but what if Niels as the King of Denmark married the widowed Matilda, what would happen to England and Normandy if they ruled it in personal union with Denmark.Guess you first have to have politics related to Britain sorted out like getting William Clito off the scene to pave the way for a more decent marriage of Mathilda/Maud. Though getting her married to the King of Denmark might prove a bit too much and interfering with Henry I's ideas of succession.
The King of Denmark 1125 would be Niels not Eric II who wouldn't be King untill 1134. Niels however would become a widower 1127 so a match would be possible – in the time frame. Of course Eric could be married to Mathilda before his becoming King thus perhaps making him less suitable for election in Denmark passing the crown to his half-brother Eric III (thus becoming II)![]()
