WI: Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold expelled before the day of the shooting

What if they were expelled from Columbine High School before the shooting? Maybe the POD is that they punch someone in March 1999. Do they shoot up somewhere else? If so, where?

I've got the impression nothing's going to stop them, not even expulsion. In fact, that might even speed up the process given they'll now have more time to work on their plan. Might even get the bombs right this time...

Right. ATL Columbine might actually manage to outdo the OKC bombing in terms of casualties.

And not just that, but with kids dying. We already have problems to this day with people trying to copycat Sandy Hook and Columbine. It could be absolutely horrific if it became the sort of thing where it was guaranteed that people could get their fifteen minutes of fame by commuting a mass shooting.

Right, I'm sure that will stop them from coming the next day.
Actually it very well might. These two are still minors, and expelled, and had a prior criminal record. Their parents are going to be involved in the expulsion process, and will know about it. A decent amount of parental scrutiny would likely delay, if not completely stop their plans

They could pick somewhere other than a school to attack.

Such as? I've got the impression that Columbine was the target they wanted to hit, nothing else.

ARE the parents going to do anything? Supposedly Kliebold's parents saw the sawed-off shotgun barrel in their son's room but didn't say or do anything. I was utterly shocked when a judge ordered that Dylan and Kliebold's parents couldn't be sued, if they paid ANY attention to the situation this might never have happened...

ETA: I checked Wikipedia which says both Kliebold and Harris' parents did settle a large number of lawsuits, although for a fraction of what they should have been...

Yeah, if you read more about Harris, he was just plain psychopathic, even without the bullying; Klebold just seemed to be a follower of Harris. His mom recently talked about how the whole thing affected her.

For an interesting take on Columbine, read Player Two Start...

Harris and Klebold had fooled law enforcement fairly well during the program after they had robbed that van and got off early for good behavior, and were considered models of rehabilitation. Expulsion is serious business, it provides a stimulus to overwhelm tendencies to believe the best in your kids and to not do something that could bring discord to the family. I am not saying that this is 100% going to work, I m saying this is very likely to have some effect

The timeline might be moved up, but how would less time to make something as complicated as a bomb be more likely to result in success?

The bombs they built were not the most efficient design. Expelled from school they might have time to research the subject, realize they want something far deadlier and have time to build them.

It's frightening how easy it is to make things like this, and how easy it is to find designs and materials to do so...
