WI England Linguistic Divide

What if English instead of absorbing the mass-French influence actually repelled it. In affect the Norman dialect becomes spoken only by the new Aristocracy and Clergy while English remains the language of the English, free from the invasion?
What would be the effects of such?
Would such a thing need the influence of a few ASB's?

Well . . . that's essentially what happened OTL. Few of the common people ever learned to speak Anglo-Norman French. But as it was the language of power, they gradually adopted some vocabulary from it, which is pretty much universally what happens in these types of situations. Given their lack of political and economic power, I'm not sure how or why they would want to "reject" loanwords in their vocabulary, which would aid communication between them and their overlords.
