WI: Empress Anna Petrovna of Russia?

Not to mention that Pyotr II is the Holy Roman Emperor's nephew, plus later the cousin of several monarchs (the queens of Prussia and Denmark, a bigwig in the Dutch government, distant relative of the kings of England, and the queen of Hungary). So, he might be doomed solely by his blood to die on the block.

I don't know. I can't see Anna killing Peter unless he started a rebellion. By all accounts Anna was close to him and historically not only was her sister Elizabeth close to him (with rumors of more than that) but she supported his reign and was one of his closest advisors along with his sister, Natalia. And Peter WAS related to the Habsburgs (his mother and the wife of Charles VI were sisters), which Anna was not. I probably see a Stephen I/Henry II situation where even if Anna has kids, then Peter is still first in line. I just can't see how the Russian nobles (at least a good portion) will countenance Peter the Great's direct line grandson being passed over AGAIN for a Holstein-Gottorp prince.
