WI Emperor Constantine VI marries Princess Rotrud in 788 AD?

On the death of Leo IV (775-80) he was succeeded by his minor son Constantine VI with his mother Irene as Regent... In 782 he was betrothed to Rotrud daughter of Charlemagne in order that ERE can forge an alliance with Franks... Empress Irene however in her desire for power she strove to keep her son as a minor as long as possible, and finally to set him aside altogether. Of her own authority she broke off the betrothal of Constantine VI (780-97) to Rotrud, and forced him to marry Maria of Armenia, a woman wholly distasteful to him...
WI Constantine VI was indeed married to Rorud as planned and has an heir? How is that altering History? Any thoughts?
