WI: Emperor Akihito’s wife is half Chinese and they have a male heir?

Okay this is probably not world changing but I thought it would still be interesting considering current Sino-Japanese relations.

So before Akihito married Michiko, there was the possibility that he would marry Aisin-Gioro Huisheng, who was the daughter of Pujie, younger brother of China’s last emperor, and his Japanese wife Hiro Saga. Huisheng wanted to marry her boyfriend but was thwarted due to her mother’s intention to marrying her to Akihito.

In 1957 Huisheng and her boyfriend committed ritual suicide. But if this didn’t happen, I think it’s kind of amusing the current Japanese crown prince could be a descendant of Manchu emperors.

A bit of background on Pujie:

Intresting idea indeed. But would Japanese court, parliament or people accept that?

I’m curious myself. Pujie marrying a Japanese noble woman was arranged by Japan. They tried to get Puyi, who had no children to take a Japanese wife as well. The whole idea was to ensure heirs to the Manchkuo emperor would be blood relations with the Japanese royal family. Hiro Saga and her husband’s story is probably better known in Japan where they made a soapy tv series out of it than China where no one cares about royals.

BTW Huisheng’s death is officially unresolved. Her family believes she was murdered by her obsessed boyfriend, but it sounds like a suicide pact to me.
