When King Henry of Portugal died in 1580, it sparked a succession crisis in the kingdom. IOTL, by Portuguese law, the next in line was Ranuccio Farnese, Duke of Parma, and, of course, Philip II of Spain toom the throne for himself. However, what if Philip had decided to rule Portugal indirectly (even less so than IOTL) by placing another ally on the throne? Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, was the son of King Manuel I's daughter Beatrice, and he already had an adult son, who IOTL married Philip's daughter Catherine Michelle.
