This is one of several WI's I will be making concerning Elvis Presley, and hope that much debate will be inspired.
For this first one, everyone knows that during the making of Viva Las Vegas, Elvis had a hot affair with Ann-Margaret and the press was awash in rumors of them becoming an official item. Priscilla was deeply hurt and embarrassed by the affair, and quite angry. In time, Elvis broke things off with her and initially recommitted himself to Priscilla. Many later felt that Ann-Margaret was Elvis' real soulmate, and that he just discovered her too late.
Thus the question is thus: what if Elvis decided to simply break things off with Priscilla in order to pursue Ann-Margaret as he clearly wanted? Besides the obvious heartbreak and falling out with Priscilla's family, what else would've happened? Would the relationship have been a happier one, or would Elvis' wandering eye still have emerged? Would she have been an influence for him to stand up to Col. Parker and take back control of his career, or would he still have fallen into the rut of disposable movies, soul-crushing Vegas engagements and one-night stands across America, overeating, drug dependency and virtual incontinence?
