WI - Electronic Arts acquires SubSpace

In OTL SubSpace was launched in 1997 by Virgin Interactive Entertainment with 150,000 regular players and privately hosted servers. Though well received VIE soon shut down in 1998, with most of its assets being acquired by giant game publisher Electronic Arts, except for SubSpace.

What if EA instead also acquired SubSpace in ATL? Additionally what if SubSpace managed to retain more popularity up to the present day instead of being largely forgotten and maintained only by dedicated fans and players (despite it being available on Steam)?

::starts counting down the minutes till the DLC and micropayments overwhelm the game before EA wrecks the company making it and sells the crappy games on Origin::

Perhaps though it is a pity seeing OTL SubSpace Continuum dwindling in popularity at a time when retro games in recent times have grown in popularity.
