In 1957, Eisenhower had enough of Batista, and pulled the US ambassador (as well as implementing an embargo). However he still left the Batista regime (and its corruption) in place, allowing for Castro's revolution to eventually gain traction.
What if Ike decided Cuba was too important to leave up for grabs, and sent in US troops to clean out Batista's regime (with the FBI going after the mafia), and set up new elections. The goal would be to increase the Cuban people's quality of life, and gain a loyal ally.
If done right, would this rob Castro of his base of support, and butterfly his successes?
