Edvard Kardelj was the right-hand man and designated successor of Marshal Josip Broz Tito, communist dictator of Yugoslavia. However, Kardelj died of colon cancer in February 1979, a year before Tito's demise. What if Kardelj did not get cancer(or it was detected early on and succesfully treated) and lived until 1989 or 90 succeding Marshal Tito as head of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, as well as alternating as president and Prime Minister of that county durning the 80's? Would he have been able to keep the country together a little bit longer? Would the break-up and civil war been delayed? And more importantly would he have been able to prevent the emergence of Slobodan Milosevic as political strongman of Serbia? Any takers?
