Long story short, there was a lot of tension in the Philippines during the time, with the snap elections and the attempted coup. Marcos was losing much of his support, which I assume is the reason he told General Ver to withdraw the troops and avoid shooting at the crowd.

And this led to a nonviolent revolution.

My question is, what would have happened if Marcos did not order the soldiers to avoid firing on the crowd?
