WI: EDSA Revolution turns bloody

I'm not sure if this has been asked before.

If you need a background, here.

Long story short, there was a lot of tension in the Philippines during the time, with the snap elections and the attempted coup. Marcos was losing much of his support, which I assume is the reason he told General Ver to withdraw the troops and avoid shooting at the crowd.

And this led to a nonviolent revolution.

My question is, what would have happened if Marcos did not order the soldiers to avoid firing on the crowd?

Ceausescu 1989. A 'good' 1986 gift for my fellow Filipinos for Christmas- a live execution of Ferdinand, Imelda, Ver, etc. Or (somewhat unlikely), civil war.

The rebels will take advantage of the chaos, and launch a coordinated attacks across the country.

And the rumored MNLF-led Malaysian invasion of Mindanao becomes a reality.

So basically civil war in the Philippines? I remember starting a thread similar to this before.

It would cause temporary break-up perhaps of the Philippines. You might have Cebu as the capital of Cory-RAM coalition while Manila as the capital of Marcos-Ver coalition. Half of Mindanao might gone to NPA and another one with the MNLF. Thank God it never happened.

Would Manila even be safe for the Marcoses after committing such a massacre, though?

Reminds me of the Romanian Civil War by Mr. Tony Kwok... (part of "A Song was Heard in China")

All of us here should consider writing a Philippine Civil War TL.
