WI: Edmund Hitler survives

Edmund Hitler (1894 - 1900) was Adolf Hitler's younger brother, who died at age 6 of the measles.

How might Adolf having a little brother affect his future? Might he push himself harder in school and be able to become a successful painter or architect? I'd assume he'd still end up in the military in World War I, probably along with his brother, which would affect both of them. If Adolf still goes into politics, what might Edmund's role in Adolf's schemes be?

Honestly given how contingent Hitlers entry into politics was it's entirely possible to say that something as simple as having a brother might prevent it. Edmund might have the talent and brains to help his older brother qualify for architectural school or to get into art school.

Pretty much. The problem is that it's hard to say how he'd get along with his brother and how this would shape Adolf Hitler's life. It could go in virtually any way you could imagine, from changing nothing to changing everything. It's just too broad a question to be meaningful.

Yeah. I assume a brother would be a positive thing in his life. Most people sort of like their brothers. But it could easily not be the case.

In OTL, the death of his younger brother Edmund, who died from measles in 1900, deeply affected Hitler. He changed from a confident, outgoing, conscientious student to a morose, detached, sullen boy who constantly fought with his father and teachers.

However, when you look at his other sibling, it makes you wounder:
Paula Hitler, was born 21 January 1896. She was six years old when her father, died, and eleven when she lost her mother Klara, after which the Austrian government provided a small pension to Paula and Adolf.
Would an extra mouth to feed, cause Alois Hitler, Sr, to work longer?

However, the amount was relatively meager and Adolf, who was by then old enough to support himself, agreed to sign his share over to her. Would the government pay more for the three of them?

Paula later moved to Vienna, where she worked as a secretary. She had no contact with her brother during his difficult years as a painter in Vienna and later Munich, military service during World War I and early political activities back in Munich.
Would Edmund survive the war?

By her own account, after losing a job with a Viennese insurance company in 1930 when her employers found out who she was, Paula received financial support from her brother, lived under the assumed family name Wolff at Hitler's request and worked sporadically. Hitler appears to have had a low opinion of her intelligence, referring to both Paula and his other sister Angela as "stupid geese".
Would Adolf's politics affect Edmund own career? Would Edmund be bullied by Adolf?
