WI Eastern Tenmesee and other similar states

In otl easter Tebnesse was not enthusiatic about the treasonous rebellion against the lawfully elected government of the US.

I understand that the tactical situation did not allow Eastern Tennesse to be taken early by the Federal government

Were there other places where folk wanted to seceed from sessession?>/

This might give you a point to start from. Hilly North Alabama looks the third likeliest.

Good rule of thumb is look at the Appalachian Mountains. The major places of discontent with the Confederate experiment is mostly in those areas in or bordering the Appalachians. Although it is not reflected on the map, but there were parts of western North Carolina which also was anti-Confederate.

BTW Westphalian, where did this map come from? Is it from Samuel Morrison's 'History of the American Republic"?

east tenn and north ala wanted to be combined together and form the new state of nyckajack. (likely misspelled)

First of all, I was born and raised in East Tennessee (Kingsport) so I have some knowledge of the area.

Its not surprising the area was against secession; unlike the middle and western parts of the state, east Tennessee had few slaves. The mountainous terrain makes plantations hard to create. Also keep in mind that just after the Revolutionary War the area tried to break off from North Carolina and form the State of Franklin before becoming part of Tennessee.

The thing is, East Tennessee is different geographically from the other two sections of the state. I noticed this when I have driven across the state; as you travel from east to west, the terrain gradually flattens out

Interesting to see that Northern Virginia (using the modern understanding of that term) voted against the CSA. Domestic politics sure would be different if NOVA had gained statehood instead of WV...

That may have simply been pragmatic. Everyone knew where the war would really be fought and NOVA probably didn't want to get carved up the way it did.

Good point. Considering the sheer size of the Alexandria slave trade, I'd garner that there was a lot the region had to lose economically.
