WI: Earlier pioneering of artificial insemination

According to the wiki page on the subject the first procedure of human ai was done in 1884 and the pioneering of the procedure began in 1899.

So what if the procedure had been experimented with and perfected sooner, perhaps at least at an earlier point in the 1800s? How could this have effected the domestication of certain animals amongst other things?

The story merits reading:
The first reported case of artificial insemination by donor occurred in 1884: a Philadelphia professor of medicine took sperm from his "best looking" student to inseminate an anesthetized woman. The woman was not informed about the procedure, unlike her infertile husband. The case was reported 25 years later in a medical journal.
