WI Eamon de Valera executed in 1916?

A cynic might say that Collins did not live long enough to disappoint. A Collins who survived the Civil War and played a major art in the early development of the Irish Free State is interesting. I couldn't even gues at how the country would progress. Would he be an internationalist? I simply don't know.

Perhaps more a realist than Dev and willing to make compromises to play the long term, from memory wasn't it he who said that the Treaty didn't give Ireland freedom but the ability to achieve freedom, or something like that.

Certainly it's a great unknown in Irish history.

Indeed. I wonder if it would playout somethnig like Collins replaces Cosgrave in the 20s and becomes Taoiseach staying in power until well into the 30s during which time he avoids the Trade War. He is replaced by a Sean Lemass not FF in the late 30s. Collins goes on to be the second president of Ireland following Douglas Hyde (or would Hyde be the first resident ITTL).

Dies in the 60s state funeral. Viewed as a great leader for all his flaws

Maybe there is also a more radical leadership of the rebellion until 21 and of the anti treaty movement thereafter. Interesting thought Constance Markievitz?

I'm not sure that Markievitz would get that kind of position, it would depend on was it just stopping at Dev on would more have happened.

You do have a number of second tier people that could step into the breach of not having Dev but I'm not sure that it would move towards a more radical view.
