WI:EA Never Bought Westwood and Maxis

SimCity, The Sims, Spore, and Command & Conquor all continue as thriving video game series.

SimCity (2013) retains many of the notable features without the server issues/limitations placed on it by EA. Regions all have a multitude of sizes with each progressive size being able to be "purchased" by the city. Online play is still a core mechanic, but the solo campaign still exists.

Integration between SimCity 5 and The Sims 3 continues.

The Sims 3 retains many of "The Sims" and "The Sims 2" expansion packs direct into the games code. Many more (re. new) expansion packs are created. Glitches are nearly non-existant.

Integration into Sims 3 and SimCity 5 with Spore exists. Aliens that visit your city come from one of the many galactic species of Spore.

Spore features many more expansion packs as well as parts packs. One of which includes the "missing stages" which become optional to the main game.

------

Red Alert 3 isn't as bad as in OTL. Global Domination still exists.

Also Sim Mars might have been finished.
A hard SF colonisation sim is something the world missed out on.

EA might look out for other studios to buy.
An even crueler fate than OTL might be that Looking Glass Studios is bought by EA.

TBH, I think you're taking a slightly rosy view on things here, but the general sentiment is in the right direction.

You're forgetting that EA bought Maxis comparitively early on, in about 1996 IIRC. Both the original Sims and SimCity 4 were produced under EA, the Sims 2 while having the expansion pack problem that would plague Sims 3 did include a fair few of the elements that had been in the expansion packs for the Sims, and SimCity Societies is a fair enough game if treated as a spin-off from the main franchise.

Really, the rot set in around 2007 or so. Had there been a serious change in management thought at EA there, we would be in a much better position.

However, and this is an important thing to note, Maxis at least is going to be bought by someone. The SimCity series was basically the only thing the made that was selling in the mid 90s, and they'd made heavy losses.
