WI Duke of Monmouth wins battle of Sedgemoor?

After landing from the Netherlands at Lyme Regis in Dorset, the Duke of Monmouth eventually led his untrained and ill-equipped troops on a night-time attack on the King's position on the site of Bussex Farm outside the village of Westonzoyland at 6 July 1685. The element of surprise was lost when a musket was accidentally discharged, and the Battle of Sedgemoor resulted in defeat for the Duke by the Royal army under Lord Churchill and the Lord Feversham...
WI James Scott had caught the Royal Army off guard and the battle of Sedgemoor ended in his victory? Could he had dethroned James II and install himself as James III? How is this altering History? Any thoughts?

I posted a similar scenario some months ago and someone (I think it was Faeelin) commented this might lead to Protestant and not Catholic absolutism, since Parliament would be less involved than it was in the Glorious Revolution.

Wouldnt the Nobles object to a potential ascension of a bastard to the throne? Its England we talk about here... Not Portugal...
