WI Duchesne discovers pencillin

In 1897, Ernest Duchesne produced a dissertation to the Pasteur Institute on the use of penicillin to fight infection. In OTL, this was ignored, but what if he had been recognised and, within a couple of years, his experiments are showing promise. By the turn of the century, other scientists have joined his research team and by 1902, the age of antibiotics has arrived.

What effects would this have on history, particularly in relation to World War I?

Less casualties, certainly.
