WI: Donald Trump and Jello Biafra

What if in the 2000 election, instead of Ralph Nader and Pat Buchanan being nominated by the Green/ Reform parties, What If Jello Biafra Had gotten the Green Party nomination and Donald Trump had gotten the Reform Party nomination? How well would either do in the general election?

Jello Biafra does not do as well as Nader. Gore wins.

Are you sure? He has a lot of name recognition.

As for Trump, I think it is very telling that he got beat by a guy who was basically himself in the future in the Reform primaries. He'll do better than Buchanan, but not by much.

Jello Biafra Is mainly known among punk rock fans. I would not say he has that much name recognition. He ran an absurdist campaign for may of san Francisco in 1979. He would likely run an absurdist campaign for president. Trump in 2000 was much different from the Trump that is running today. For example, Trump was Pro Choice, Pro Affirmative Action, Pro Gun Control, Pro Taxing the Rich, and Pro Single Payer Health Care. If Biafra runs an absurdist campaign, Many voters who voted for Nader in OTL would maybe vote for Trump instead, and we would likely be living in a world where Donald Trump is blamed for Al Gore losing instead of Ralph Nader.

Roseanne Barr has more name recognition than Biafra, and her presidential campaigns have never gotten significant traction. A Biafra campaign likely looks very different from a Nader one. Nader was a guy who could be taken seriously. His lack of personal charisma or particularly outrageous views made him seem like he wasn't just another novelty candidate, which a punk rocker running for president definitely would be perceived as.

I would say that Trump, similarly, would be widely dismissed as a novelty candidate and wouldn't attract many voters, but I've been wrong in the recent past on that matter. So fuck it, Trump probably wins. Donald Trump has to console a mourning nation after the WTC attacks. It's uncomfortable for everyone.
