WI: Don Imus didn’t say the things that got him fired

Imus was basically a thinking man's shock jock. Might be hard for him to build a following without that shtick.

He seemed to lean left - he called George Tenet an idiot and said Cheney should be hanged for treason. He wasn't as one sided or as nasty as Olbermann (one of his earlier controversies involved crossing the line with remarks about WJC), and he frequently had serious conversations with his guests. But on balance he seemed to be center left (I listened to him in 2005 for a short time each morning so it might not be a representative sample.)

Nappy headed hos was par for the course, except that it was aimed at WBB players and not politicians. I thought the high profile protestors made a mistake calling him out. The remark was terrible, but they gave it way too much exposure. Without the protests most of us, and the Rutgers players themselves, would never have heard about it.

Hard to say how he would cover Obama, since O didn't fit the mold of previous politicians. In policy terms he was a country club Republican. Trump...also an anomaly politically but it's easier to guess how his personal style would play out. DJT and I-man would get into some highly entertaining insult wars. It would eventually evolve into Trump being a recurring guest and them busting each other's chops, kind of like Imus and Dr. Phil.
