WI: "Divine Comedy" in Occitan?

Apparently, Dante Alighieri seriously considered writing the "Divine Comedy" in Occitan (specifically Provençal), given that language's strong poetic tradition in the western Mediterranean at the time (thanks to the troubadours who had established it as a literary language of high culture). Instead, he decided to write in his comparatively obscure native Tuscan dialect, which would consequently go on to form the basis of modern standard Italian (lingua toscana in bocca romana...), which in turn started a trend of "national" languages and literatures, which contributed to the emergence of modern nation-states.

So, what would have happened if he had opted for writing in Occitan, instead?

I´m inclined to think it´d not be as famous as OTL.:D

Nah, maybe more occitan influences in modern italian if it becomes widespread and well read.

Bump?

I'm wondering specifically if anyone thinks that this PoD could significantly delay the emergence of national languages and the emergence of modern nation states (and nationalism) by extension.
