WI Diocletian returns to power in 308 AD

In 1 May 305 Emperor Diocletian abdicated after a serious illness that brought him on death's door... Diocletian forced the other Augustus Maximian to abdicate too and the the 2 Caesars were elevated to Augusti...
Soon chaos ensued since by 308 there were 4 rival Augusti and one Caesar... In 308 Galerius, together with the retired emperor Diocletian and the supposedly-retired Maximian, called an imperial 'conference' at Carmuntum on the River Danube, which agreed that Licinius would become Augustus in the West, with Constantine as his Caesar. In the East, Galerius remained Augustus and Maximinus remained his Caesar. Maximian was to retire, and Maxentius was declared an usurper. But this agreement proved disastrous...
When the Conference started however the Purple was offered again to Diocletian in order to stop the declining Empire but he refused...
WI Diocletian had accepted to resume his Imperial powers in 308 AD? How is this fact altering Roman and European History? Any thoughts?
