WI: Different Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle

The War of the Austrian Succession was quite successful for France - it won many victories, and occupied the entire Austrian Netherlands (modern Belgium.)

However, in the resulting treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, France restored all its conquests, coming away with no gains. Apparently, King Louis XV was happy with having a hexagon-shaped kingdom of France. As one might expect, the decision was rather unpopular back home.

What would have happened if Louis XV had indeed tried to keep his conquests? Presumably, they'd lose Cape Breton Island 18 years early as a result (Britain gave it back for France to withdraw from the Netherlands.)

Was there actually any kind of one for one trade with Cape Breton? Wasn't the issue more just that there was an agreement for a status quo ante peace outside Italy?

At any rate, the British aren't going to agree to a peace that involves French annexation of the Austrian Netherlands. Louis XV could perhaps get border rectifications in his favor - Ypres and Tournai had been French for some time under Louis XIV, for instance. But the Austrian Netherlands are going to have to be maintained in some form.

And didn't the changes in Italy basically favour the Franco-Spanish side, meaning that at least Louis got that out of the deal?
