Could the Australian Football League have formed in such a way as to benefit the great clubs around the nation rather than a Victorian takeover run by marketing arseholes who manipulate the rules for marketing purposes?
I think it would have to have a 70s PoD, that's when the best WAFL and SANFL players started to leave their home states to play in Victoria. Coincidently that was also the era of the 'Championship of Australia' played by clubs from the 4 football states, followed by the night series which peaked with all 34 VFL, SANFL and WAFL plus composite teams from the other 4 states/territories.
How would Australian Football be structured in such an environment? Would relegation be a prize/penalty, would this help?
