WI Diana had survived?

What if Princesss Diana had survived the 1997 car crash, but Dodi Fayed had still perished? What, if any, impact would this have on later events, such as the Iraq war...?

Unbalanced, I can see her undermining all credibility with those of influence, but she will still retain her place as Queen of the Chavs.

By this time she might be seeing the error of her ways and be consulting the image consultants, but it will be too late. Her only option will be to open an animal santuary and retire from public life.

Hmm. Trying to think about the condition, if she would make a full recovery from that kind of impact. She suffered Heavy damage to her heart and major internal bleeding. She might need a pacemaker or a heart transplant, its possible that she suffers brain damage or something else like that.

If Diana is never going to make a full recovery--like she has suffered irreparable brain damage--she would probably be seen very sympathetically and probably gets intense medical care for the rest of her life.

Even without the worst effects of excessive blood loss, Diana is probably close to death for at least a week and a recovery would be slow--she would probably need a pacemaker or transplant--and its possible this also means that she is unable to globetrot like she used to. She would have no choice but to become much less involved in the world.

So, for the Iraq war, Diana might protest it, write letters about it, but she isn't going to be physically up to resisting it. Sorry.

She could very well have suffered much less
injuries than she did OTL :
it would be enough for her to remember to use her safety belt.

Well. I'm trying to honor the original premise of "surviving the accident". And this is correct. Perhaps the OP can clarify in what condition Diana survives the accident.

A former member of the royal family reduced to a vegetable, or a cripple is going to augur sympathy, and I would see either outcome as likely if Diana did make some kind of recovery after her intense medical care. But if the OP could clarify how she survives, that would be helpful.

Could the OP rule on this?

Either way Camilla and Charles can forget about any kind of relationship. Or if they did have one, he'd have to become the next Duke of Windsor, though both would welcome on British soil.

My guess: she keeps on doing charity stuff and eventually gets back together with & marries Hasnat Khan.

But if she makes a full recovery (which is quite likely, y'know) then I'll bet they'd get married sooner.

Not sure that would be the case; why would most people really be that fussed?

Diana is still alive, no 'Saint Di' myth, which would mean less hostility towards Camilla than in OTL. Do remember a lot of the 'Queen of Hearts' sillyness is part of a tabloid campaign that only started after her death. when she was still alive they were more than happy to spread the more 'interesting' (to their readers) aspects of her private life across their fron page (Carling anyone?)

I was thinking that maybe without Diana's death to make the "People's Princess" speech, plus having her in active opposition to the Iraq war, might adversley affect Tony Blair's Government? In many ways, Blair was a great success because he was such a fantastic "celebrity", but with a surviving Lady Di, could Blair be eclipsed somewhat?
