WI: Denmark under the HRE

Was there any chance for Denmark to join the HRE before the Reformation? In this case, would have this helped for an eventual union with Prussia once the Reformation happened?

Have the Emperor come out stronger from the Investiture strife during the 11. century and he may well force the Danish King into taking his kingdom as a HREGN feif.

Perhaps this could lead to other German princes to demand elevation to kingdom status?

Why would Denmark and Prussia join in union - except of course for control of north German lands?

Otto the Great forced Vassalage on Denmark in 950, and in 974 Harald Bluetooth tried revolting against Otto II and got chased off after his norwegian troops went home for the winter, ending with Otto II annexing Denmark into HRE. If Otto II lived for a longer time (at least long enough to dodge a regency council for Otto III), he might well have managed to beat back Bluetooth coming back for round two at a similar time as the Great Slav Uprising in 983

Frederick Barbarossa also apparently at least demanded, although I'm not sure if it went beyond general imperial proclamations, Danish vassalization.
