It has been stipulated by some that the cotton gin was the savior of America's dying slavery business in the late 1790s. Now, I think it's impossible for something like that to never be invented (conspiracy theories about Eli Whitney not actually inventing the thing aside), but I do think it's feasible for something that efficient becoming so popular and mass-produced. So, here's my question: What if the cotton gin was delayed-

Also, the Boll Weevil was a parasite that caused a lot of problems for cotton farmers in America in the earliest 1900s. What would be the effects of it showing up a century ahead of time?
