WI Deadlocked 48 Election

So this idea just popped in my head because I was playing a election sim of 48 and it ended up 247 Truman , 246 Dewey and Strom got his 38.

So what happens if Dewey wins all the states he won OTL but also picks up California,Nevada ,Idaho and Ohio. which to me none of those states are that far out of line for him to win. Ohio would just need Taft doing a bit more. The three western states beside the fact the Earl Warren was Dewey's VP were relative close.

So would Truman and Dewey broker a deal? Where Truman stayed President and Dewey became VP or would something else happen?

My understanding is that by 1948, it was decided that if an election ended deadlocked, it would be thrown to the House. If the House couldn't decide by January 20th, then under the Twentieth Amendment, the Vice President Elect would become Acting President until the House decided. If there was no VPE, then, under the succession act of 1947, Acting Presidency would fall to the Speaker of the House.

thats my question how would of the House voted for the President and how would the Senate voted for Vice President?

The Dixicrats would of complicated it big time.

so would there been a backroom deal made or no?

I suspect a Truman-Dewey deal to elect the winner of the popular vote with perhaps some cabinet appointments to the other party

IOTL in the House there were 19 GOP state delegations, 4 split and 25 Democrat. Naturally the Dem. delegations would be dominated by the South and the question is, how many of them would vote for Thurmond.

On the other side, with the GOP doing generally better in this scenario, I assume they would also changes in the House. At least 3 split delegations would go GOP and probably also 3 Dem. delegation. So we would have 25 Gop, 1 split and 22 Dem..

The House would elect Dewey in this scenario.

In the Senate the Dem. had IOTL 54 seats, the GOP 42. In this scenario I see the GOP win 3 additional seats, so D 51, R 45. Still a Dem.majority. So Alben Barkley becomes VP.

Dewey/Barkley seems the most likly outcome.

how does Dewey Handle Korea and does this mean IKE runs as a Democrat in 52?

The Korean war might not even happen in TTL. In OTL the Truman administration hinted very strongly that they didn't care about Korea which AFAIK was a pretty important factor in the North choosing to attack. A hypothetical Dewey administration would likely take a more aggressive foreign policy line re: Korea and nip the Korean war in the bud.
