IOTL David Jason, of future Open All Hours and Only Fools and Horses fame, initially worked with Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Jones, future Python's, on Do Not Adjust Your Set from 1967 until 1969. After this show ended the future Python's created Monty Python’s Flying Circus, but they left David Jason out, something he was "miffed" about at the time.
What if he hadn't been left out, and instead joined the three Python's he'd worked with in the Flying Circus? Would he fit in? Would the show still be as popular? If he remained in and the show was as successful, would the films be changed at all, if they still come about?
Also how would it affect Jason's later career? A year after the Flying Circus John Cleese went onto play Basil Fawlty in the popular series Fawlty Towers, and IOTL Jason's first major TV role was in Open All Hour's which was 1976. Being a Python, would this stunt that role for him as he might become too well known? Would he be considered for other comedy parts?
EDIT: Also, IOTL, Jason had been considered for the role of Lance-Corporal Jones in Dad's Army. If he became a bigger name by being a member of Monty Python, could we see him in Dad's Army in, say, 1973 after the death of James Beck - who played Joe Walker - as an added character? Unlikely, I know, but if they considered him back in 1968 to play Jones, maybe with a bigger name they might consider him again and so he might play a character in the last 4 years of Dad's Army's run.
